As Bank Holiday Monday provided an extra game to the midweek festivities, Tuesday night meant a game as well but not where you’d think!
A couple of days away with the girls meant getting an extra game in in the South West of country tied in with a trip to see relatives which hasn’t happened for a good five years.
After the Monday game it was a road trip and overnight stay in Bournemouth, back on the road Tuesday with an overnight stop booked in Exeter.
The Tuesday night action took place at one of my newest programme column clubs, Brixham AFC. I always try and get to each of the club’s as a small thank you in a way, the Fishermen and Lower Breck this year were to be a challenge compared with the other six clubs!

Had their game taken place on the Monday it probably would have been a no go, but the move to the next evening proved lucky to work things around.
Before this season, the Western League was not one I had notice of, similar with the North West Counties, but you never stop learning in this game and a great chance to broaden the horizons.
So far Brixham have had a decent start to the season and through two rounds of the FA Cup where the next round takes place this afternoon, a chance to grab some more league points on offer midweek however.
A decent crowd was building before kick-off, a nice set up inside and out around the pitch. Both sides were industrious around midfield and down the flanks, but a lack of chances at both ends saw a half time stalemate amidst the threat of a rain shower on the way.
The Fishermen certainly picked up the tempo in the second half and after the slow first ten minutes the pressure ramped up from the home side. The closest they came was James Moxon thumping the post but the ball not rebounding out to a blue shirt.
Substitutions did their best to help out Brixham but St Blazey held firm and I had to settle for my first 0-0 of the season but not one without the keeper’s being tested a little!
Tom Moritmore certainly stood out for the home side, having the measure of the full back on his right side throughout the half, a little more composure at times having done the hard work and Brixham could well have taken all three points.
Great to meet the guy who look after the media and programme at Wallpark Road, Ian Whitcombe. These are the people who make the club tick and keep it going week to week and season to season. His estimate of 150 expected to be in attendance wasn’t too short in 136 announced at half time.
