Earlier this week I caught up with the new Welling Utd manager Danny Bloor to find out how he was appointed and what to expect as pre-season nears.

TK: Danny, how delighted were you to get back into the game so quickly after leaving Eastbourne Borough?

DB: Of course it was pleasing to get back in so quickly, sometimes you have to wait and be patient but with this job available it was an option to go back in at the same level.

TK: Some great times for you at Eastbourne but now attention turns to Welling Utd, what was it that attracted you to the job?

DB: It was a good fit for me and my management style I felt, a proper no nonsense non-league football club and one I hope goes on this season to have a good year.

TK: It certainly is a club with a good non-league pedigree and scope to improve on last season, will there be an expectation from you that you installed at Eastbourne?

DB: Mine and my management teams’ values will be installed from day one. Out run, out work, out play, think forward, act forward and play forward, hopefully the fans will appreciate that and get behind the team.

TK: Early days so far for recruitment as we speak a few hours after your appointment, no doubt you had targets in mind to join you at Eastbourne, is there a likelihood those players could join you at Park View Road?

DB: 100%, but we are extremely pleased with the players already recruited before my arrival. Knowing the level is the bonus and now just a case of getting more players in.

TK: With pre-season getting closer by the day is there a rush to fill out the squad or a patience to ensure you get the right player for Welling Utd?

DB: It’s 5th August  we need to be ready for, nothing else. There is still plenty of time to get ourselves sorted and together, that is the only date in mind.

TK: Are you expecting a more open title race this year compared to last year with Ebbsfleet pretty much in control from day one?

DB: I think it will be a very competitive league from top to bottom, a number of clubs will have some big budgets but all my interest is on Welling Utd and being a part of the right end of the table.

My thanks to Danny for squeezing in some questions on the day he was appointed, good luck to him and Welling Utd for the upcoming season.
